WHIF at AMTZ Joins BRICS+ Manufacturing Working Group, Strengthening India’s Global Health-Tech Leadership

Prime Highlights

  • WHIF is brought on board as the lone global initiative within the BRICS+ Manufacturing Working Group.
  • Having a headquarter within AMTZ, the forum will facilitate R&D collaboration and med-tech innovation among Global South countries.

Key Fact

  • WHIF is located in AMTZ, the globe’s largest single site medical device manufacturing hub in Visakhapatnam.
  • The decision enhances India’s profile prior to its BRICS Presidency in 2026 and facilitates low-cost scalable health innovations.

Key Background

The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) World Health Innovation Forum (WHIF) has been welcomed into the BRICS+ Manufacturing Working Group, which is a select group of institutions. It is an inter-governmental platform comprising nations that are part of the Global South, and its objective is to promote industrial and manufacturing collaboration between BRICS nations and others.

WHIF’s choice is a milestone in the Indian leadership rise in healthcare innovation. Being the first and sole worldwide choice, WHIF will be a driver of cross-border cooperation, promoting bilateral R&D corridors and equitable, scalable med-tech solutions. The choice precedes India’s BRICS Presidency in 2026 and reinforces India’s strategic role in the development of world med-tech ecosystems once again.

AMTZ, the headquarters of WHIF, has been recognized around the world as the world’s largest integrated medical device manufacturing complex. The complex facilitates real-time innovation, manufacturing, and testing of affordable medical devices. The reputation and network of WHIF are enhanced through collaborations with institutions such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Kalam Institute of Health Technology.

WHIF programs such as iPassport, World Health Innovation Fellowship, and EntrepreNari have already facilitated health professionals, start-ups, and women entrepreneurs in more than 20 low- and middle-income nations. Its promotion to the BRICS+ platform positions it as the pivotal force for health-tech revolution in emerging markets.

Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Founder and Managing Director, AMTZ, observed that the inclusion of WHIF is evidence of India’s ability to provide frugal, system-ready innovation. COO Mohini Mehta also asserted that the forum is now even more obligated to construct sovereign and sustainable healthcare ecosystems geographically.

Through this innovation, WHIF is not only positioning India as a global leader in healthcare innovation but also changing the way emerging economies can co-advance public health technology at scale.
